While not entirely devoid of its own built-in epicness, Debbie's journey doesn't have quite have the life and death gravitas of a Dante.
The new floppy by Brooklyn cartoonist Anne Emond isn't a hero's journey into the underworld so much as one woman's trip through a series of emotions, set in motion by her own indifference and chaperoned by a talking cat.
In each level, Debbie encounters different states of being -- cynicism, passion self-loathing -- each of which manifest themselves in different environments, often, as she herself points out, a little on the nose. Emond's sketchy lines and snarky cat lend the trip a lighthearted feel as Debbie takes a stroll through her own inner conflict.
Debbie's Inferno is available now from Retrofit Comics. You can find an exclusive preview of the book below.
