Bethesda Says Not To Expect A 'Skyrim' Sequel For A Very Long Time

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is one of the most popular RPGs of all time. Thanks to mod support on PC and a healthy dose of post-launch DLC, the game is still being played by many, despite being released way back in 2011.

Even though Bethesda is returning to its other much-revered franchise with Fallout 4 this year, some fans simply want to know when they will be able to get their hands on the next single-player Elder Scrolls title.

Bethesda's answer? Not anytime soon.

Speaking with Dualshockers at gamescom, Bethesda's vice president of marketing Peter Hines said it will be a "very long time" before news on the next entry in the Elder Scrolls series surfaces.

That's because all of Bethesda is hard at work on Fallout 4, along with the game's post-launch DLC and mod support. Unlike some development studios, which may assign a small team of developers to start work on the studio's next project as their current project nears release, Bethesda focuses solely on one game at a time. Currently 100 percent of the studio is working on Fallout 4.

Hines said the development team for the game is roughly the same size as the group that worked on Skyrim. Bethesda has previously stated that Fallout 4 is mostly finished, with the team now focusing on fixing bugs and preparing for post-launch content.

With that said, there is no guarantee that Bethesda's next game will even be a sequel to Skyrim in the first place. It could be another Fallout or a brand new property. Fans of the Elder Scrolls universe will have to settle for The Elder Scrolls Online to get their Skyrim fix for the time being.
