Do you feel like you only go to the same few bars, and are looking to shake things up a bit? Live life on the edge by letting this app send you an Uber car that will take you to a mystery drinking destination.
But don't worry about being dropped off in front of some shady building that could possibly be closed. The app, called Bar Roulette, only selects the top-rated bars within your desired radius, so you can be adventurous without having to second-guess whether hopping in the Uber was a good idea after all.
The app also makes sure that the random bar you're being taken to is actually open — whether it's a late Thursday evening or early Sunday morning.
Bar Roulette was designed and built by Tyler Swartz as a side project to explore ways that developers can use Uber's new ride request API. The app uses both Uber and Yelp's APIs to pick up the bar-goer and find an establishment worth drinking at.
Users sign into their Uber account and enter their location to have an UberX come pick them up and bring them to a top-rated bar at random.
Passengers are not told the name of the bar until the Uber driver arrives at the destination. That means friends can guess where they are going, spicing up a typical night out on the town.
Users will be able to expand their drinking horizons, checking out new places recommended on Yelp that they maybe would not have thought to visit.
Bar Roulette is currently only available on the web, but Swartz revealed on Product Hunt that an app is in the works.
