Nokia X2 appears on AnTuTu, runs on both Windows and Android

At the 2014 Mobile World Congress, Nokia unveiled three smartphones running on the Android OS that will be part of the Nokia X series. After the acquisition of Nokia by Microsoft, it was assumed that the Nokia X Series had come to an end.

However, the Nokia X2 has been leaked at benchmark data website AnTuTu, with the phone being touted as the successor to the Nokia X, which is the company's first Android-based smartphone.

The AnTuTu listing for the Nokia X2 has the smartphone codenamed as RM-1013. It will feature a 4.3-inch WVGA screen with a resolution of 800x480 pixels, with a 5MP rear camera and a VGA front camera. The smartphone will have a storage capacity of 4GB and will utilize a dedicated home button and back button, with the home button bearing the Microsoft logo instead of the standard icon used for Android smartphones.

The Nokia X2 will use the open-source build of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and will be powered by a 1.2 GHz dual Cortex A7 core Snapdragon 200 processor, Qualcomm MSM8X10 chipset and 1GB of RAM. The Nokia X only utilized Cortex A5 cores. The smartphone scored 11,827 points at the AnTuTu benchmark test, which is much higher compared to the around 7,500 points that its predecessor scored on the same test.

Michael Faro-Tusino, MyNokiaBlog and UnleashThePhones senior editor, tweeted that the Nokia X2 will be a dual boot smartphone, capable of running both Android and Windows Phone simultaneously. The report also revealed that the phone will have Google Play Store pre-installed, which Nokia X did not have as it has its own app store, along with other third party app stores.

The Nokia X2, however, has not yet been confirmed by the company. No further details on specifications, release date and pricing are known as of now.

Microsoft's acquisition of Nokia closed last April 25 for the price of US$7.2 billion. The deal experienced a delay of one month as the transaction awaited regulatory approval in Asia, but as soon as the deal was finalized, Microsoft began making changes to solidify itself as the owner of the mobile division of Nokia.

Rumors from a supposedly leaked letter to suppliers of Nokia suggested that Microsoft will be rebranding Nokia into Microsoft Mobile. However, Microsoft also acquired the rights to use the Nokia branding if it wished to do so, which could be the case with the Nokia X2.
