Samsung is about to unveil its iPhone 6s Plus competitors in the form of the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus. Images of both devices have been posted online, showing how they stack up compared with an iPhone 6 Plus.
A user posted some quick takeaways on Reddit after spending some time with the Galaxy Note 5 and S6 Edge Plus after a Samsung rep gave a demo of the phablets at a retail store. The Note 5 was said to have felt better in the hand due to its tapered back, which the poster claims "shrunk" down the size of it once it was in his hand. The displays on both smartphones received high praise; with the tipster noting the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus' curved Super AMOLED screen looked especially great.
The user reported that the Galaxy Note 5's 4 GB of RAM was at about 50 percent available after booting up the phablet, and it's not clear if this is due in part to an updated version of Samsung's TouchWiz UI and improved S Pen functionality. He also confirmed what has already been reported, the Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus will follow in the footsteps of the S6 and S6 Edge by not including a removable battery and microSD expansion slot.
The Galaxy Note 5 will also sport a new auto-eject S Pen that users will push in to release the stylus, and, unlike last year's Galaxy Note Edge, the S6 Edge Plus will not ship with or support the S Pen. The phablet will retain the "Apps Edge" feature that debuted on the Note Edge, the user confirmed it will use the same swiping gestures from the right edge to launch Apps Edge as well as the People Edge software.
The user compared the Note 5 with his iPhone 6 Plus and claims Samsung's phablet was slightly thicker than the 6 Plus but was both shorter in height and narrower in width and featured much better weight distribution. He noted the Note 5 wasn't "awkwardly top heavy in comparison." The above image shows the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus posing with the iPhone 6 Plus, and it also appears shorter and narrower than Apple's offering.
