The Asus ZenFone family has a brand new member — the ZenFone Max that houses a powerful 5,000 mAh battery.
On Thursday, Aug. 6, Jonney Shih, the Chairman of Asus, announced the worldwide launch of ZenFone Max. Shih also unveiled the ZenFone 2 Deluxe, ZenFone 2 Laser, ZenFone Selfie, ZenPad 7.0 and ZenPad 8.0.
The ZenFone Max sports a 5.5-inch IPS capacitive touchscreen that has a 1280 by 720 pixel resolution with 267 pixels per inch. The screen of the smartphone is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4.
A quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 clocked at 1.2 GHz and 2 GB of RAM powers the device. The handset will be available in 8 GB and 16 GB internal storage models, and users can expand the memory to up to 128 GB with a microSD card.
The ZenFone Max is equipped with a 13 MP primary camera with auto-focus and dual-LED flash. The phone also has a 5 MP selfie camera. The smartphone will come running Android 5.0 Lollipop.
The role of a mobile phone has changed a lot in the last few years. Smartphone owners use their handset not just to make or receive calls. Many people use their handsets to take pictures, watch videos and listen to music on the go, which burns a lot of battery. The ZenFone Max addresses the problem with a high-capacity battery that offers long-lasting usage.
"The highlight of the new ZenFone Max (ZC550KL) is its incredibly-long-lasting high-capacity 5000 mAh lithium-polymer battery that gives users an unprecedented amount of mobile freedom," per the Asus press release.
The 5,000 mAh battery of the ZenFone Max puts many top smartphones to shame. The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 comes with a 3,220 mAh battery and the Galaxy S6 has a 2,550 mAh battery. A powerful 3,000 mAh battery powers the LG G4, while the iPhone 6 packs in a 1810 mAh battery and the iPhone 6 Plus a 2,915 mAh battery.
While Asus has confirmed a worldwide launch of the ZenFone Max, the smartphone maker has not yet revealed which regions will get the smartphones and when. However, the handset is expected to hit the shelves in October in markets such as India.
