The on-demand Internet media streaming company Netflix has announced that it will expand its services in a few more European countries.
Netflix has announced its expansion plans, which will bring the service to six European countries including Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Belgium and Luxembourg, on May 21.
Once the service is launched later this year in these six countries, Netflix says new broadband users in these locations will be able to subscribe to the service and instantly watch a selection of Hollywood, global and local movies, as well as TV series. New customers in the six new European countries will also be able to view Netflix original series on-demand on their tablets, smartphones, TV's, gaming consoles and computers. Members can play, pause and resume watching series and films across devices.
Since its launch in 2007, Netflix has enabled customers to watch their entertainment whenever and wherever they please. Users also have access to a number of functions, such as play, pause and resume, while watching their preferred video.
Netflix has nearly 48 million customers worldwide and operates in more than 40 countries. However, the major chunk of its subscribers is from the United States, although Netflix service is available now in some European countries.
"Netflix is the world's leading Internet television network with over 48 million members in more than 40 countries enjoying more than one billion hours of TV shows and movies per month. The continued European expansion follows the launch of Netflix in the UK and Ireland, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden (2012) and the Netherlands (2013)," per a company statement.
Netflix has not confirmed the prices, programs and devices that will support the service in the six new countries, but says that all details will be available at a later date. The company also stated that people who are interested in subscribing to Netflix in the new launch countries can visit www.netflix.com and sign-up to get an e-mail alert when the services have launched in their country.
Netflix charged monthly subscription fees of €6.99 in Ireland, but in January this year it increased the fees to €7.99. New customers in France, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Belgium will hope that the monthly subscription fees in their countries are similar to what is charged in other European countries.
