Dr. Dre's First Album In 16 Years Is Inspired By NWA Biopic 'Straight Outta Compton'

Dr. Dre has taken his sweet time and made his fans wait for his new album a whole 16 years. The wait is about to come to an end though.

The artist's new album is set to come out soon, it seems. To make it even more interesting, it will be the soundtrack for Straight Outta Compton and will be entirely new music produced by the maestro himself.

For years, there was talk of Detox, which was supposed to be the successor to the artist's much talked about album 2001. However, that never happened. Dr. Dre officially distanced himself from the project in 2009.

During a radio interview this spring, Dr. Dre mentioned he was working on a soundtrack for Straight Outta Compton.

"I'm working on something right now. I don't want to put it out there just yet and say that I'm definitely gonna put it out. But I'm really feeling what I'm working on right now. This would be a record that's inspired by the movie," he shared.

According to rumors, Dr. Dre will make the official announcement for the new album on his Beats 1 radio show The Pharmacy on Saturday.

Apparently, some names to look forward to on the new work are Kendrick Lamar and Eminem, among others who weren't revealed yet. No wonder the album has been referred to as an N.W.A reunion.

The rumor starter was no one else but Ice Cube, who mentioned the big news during an appearance on Philadelphia's Power 99. The album, he said, might be released on Aug. 1. However, other credible sources claim it might come later.

Be that as it may, one thing seems certain: the long wait is coming to a close. Let's see what this new album has in store for loyal fans. Dr. Dre, as well as his public, may have matured in the past 16 years, but his musical drive seems to be as alive as ever.

Ice Cube said it best when he gushed on the Rise & Grind Morning Show: "It's mega. It's Dr. Dre; it's what everybody's been waiting for." Sometimes good things simply take a while.
