Chris Pine Confirmed To Play Steve Trevor in 'Wonder Woman' Movie

The Wrap is reporting that everyone's favorite Amazonian princess has found her Steve Trevor — at least for the upcoming 2017 film based on the Wonder Woman comics.

Chris Pine, of Star Trek fame, has apparently signed on for the role opposite Wonder Woman herself, portrayed by Gal Gadot.

In the Wonder Woman comic books, Trevor is a U.S. military intelligence officer who crash lands on Themyscira, the island of the Amazons. There, he meets Diana, a.k.a. Wonder Woman, who decides to leave the island with Steve to fight the Nazis of World War II. Throughout the history of Wonder Woman comics, Trevor was often the reverse damsel-in-distress, with Wonder Woman saving him instead.

In the New 52, Trevor is a bit more refined as a spy with a close connection to Wonder Woman that leads to him becoming the U.S. liaison to the Justice League, which he eventually joins as a member.

Pine as Steve Trevor will likely be more than a love interest for Gadot's Diana Prince. Rumors previously had Pine pegged to play Hal Jordan in a new Green Lantern film, but now it seems that won't be the case. The actor is currently busy filming Star Trek 3 as Captain James Kirk.

Patty Jenkins will direct the Wonder Woman movie, with Zack Snyder and Deborah Snyder producing, along with Charles Roven and Richard Suckle. Jason Fuchs is on board as the screenwriter.

Wonder Woman gets her first big movie introduction in next year's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice film, setting her up for a solo film debut in 2017. There haven't been many teasers in the way of Wonder Woman footage, save for some small trailer clips of her fighting and photos of Gadot in costume — so it's still unclear what role she'll play in Dawn of Justice.

Wonder Woman arrives in theaters in 2017, with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hitting the silver screen on March 25, 2016.
