This September, two of the most shocking and terrifying episodes in Season 8 of Doctor Who are coming to theaters across the U.S. What's more, those episodes will appear in 3D.
What's scarier than Cybermen coming straight at you? What's more thrilling than seeing Missy in all her 3D glory as she taunts the Doctor over and over again? What's more exciting than seeing the 12th Doctor figure things out — and the horror that comes over him when he realizes what's going on?
That's right, you can watch the Doctor Who two-part Season 8 finale, "Dark Water" and "Death in Heaven" in glorious RealD 3D with Dolby Atmos sound on September 15 and 16 at 7:30 p.m.
In these two episodes, the Doctor discovers who the mysterious Missy is, as she presents him with an impossible choice. Meanwhile, Cybermen roam the streets of London and the Doctor must not only deal with what's happening, but also save the world.
Each theatrical showing will also feature a prequel scene to Season 9 called "The Doctor's Meditation," which will tease what we'll see when the series returns this fall. There's also an exclusive interview with the Doctor himself, Peter Capaldi, and his companion, as played by Jenna Coleman.
If that doesn't seem geeky enough, wrap your mind around this: the entire affair is being hosted by geek icon Wil Wheaton.
If that sounds like the perfect evening to you, you're in luck: tickets go on sale on July 31 through Fathom Events box offices at the 700 or so participating theaters. Please note that a full list of participating theaters won't become available until then.
"We love bringing Doctor Who events to theaters and seeing the fans come out in full force," said Fathom Events VP of Programming Kymberli Frueh. "This time, fans get the added excitement of seeing all the action in 3D with exclusive bonus content not available anywhere else."
Fathom Events also encourages cosplay at the events, but it has specific rules about costumes: leave your sonic screwdriver, fake weapons, masks or makeup that cover your face and bulky costumes at home.
