Marvel fans, rejoice: it has finally been revealed that Marvel's Jessica Jones is coming to Netflix in the fourth quarter of this year. This will be the second Marvel Netflix series, and its debut appears to happen earlier than what Netflix had been previously indicating.
Even though the exact dates are not out yet, we can expect to be marvelously entertained with 13 episodes of Marvel's Jessica Jones in the last months of this year, as was announced at the Television Critics Association Press Tour this Tuesday.
Some of the main cast members will be Krysten Ritter as the heroine, supported by Mike Colter, David Tennant, Rachael Taylor and Carrie-Anne Moss.
The new series is set to be very different from its predecessor, the highly popular Daredevil, said the series executive producer Melissa Rosenberg: "The mythology of the universe is connected, but they look very different. Totally, they're very different."
The Jessica Jones producer goes on to add once more: "They're wildly different." Whatever that may mean exactly, and not that Daredevil wasn't amazing in itself, this surely sounds intriguing. We are in for an entirely fresh experience, it seems, to take us through the gloomy months at the end of the year.
Based on what sources have revealed so far, the storyline is as follows: Jessica Jones, portrayed by Krysten Ritter, whom you might recognize from the hit AMC series Breaking Bad, where she played the role of Jane Margolis, is a troubled ex-superhero suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). She is now running her own detective agency while battling inner demons. The cases she takes on all have to do, of course, with people who possess extraordinary abilities.
According to Rosenberg, "the show will go ever further in all our storytelling." The producer gushes about the creative freedom that working for Netflix offers: "That's the beauty of working with Netflix. It's 13 [episodes]. There's no pilot and then getting feedback, reaction and ratings. You're in this bubble. So, what's the story you want to tell? Where do you want to go with [the characters]? It's a little scary at times, but I also think it's the most freeing experience I've ever had."
From the facts and all the hints made by the producer, Jessica Jones promises to be a worthy successor to Daredevil that will brighten up our winter months with fresh, good entertainment. Stay tuned!
