The company that helps other companies better organize and develop security of personal devices on corporate networks, Divide, is being purchased by Google as it aims to continue to expand its reach by taking over newer companies that add to the companies' goals.
By bringing Divide into the Google family, the merger aims to bring new innovative solutions to corporate security and IT needs. The ability to password protect numerous files that are accessible across any company is vital to having "eyes-only" files available to the personnel wanted.
"Divide was founded with a simple mission: Give people the best mobile experience at work. As part of the Android team, we're excited to continue developing solutions that our users love," Divide says in a statement posted on its website.
"Divide will work as it always has" for existing customers, the company said.
The merger should help Google maximize its usage as the company has been looking to get more into cloud-based technology and sees Divide as a natural progression to those wants and needs that companies have been calling for in recent months.
Divide already has apps on Google Play and the Apple App Store and in announcing the plans to its users said that it will not stop functioning as it does currently for its users for the foreseeable future.
"Check your work email, view your calendar, look up contacts and more, all in one encrypted workspace without worrying about your privacy or the threat of your company wiping your device," the app description reads. "Divide syncs with Exchange ActiveSync, Google Apps, and Lotus Notes and offers a complete BYOD solution for individuals and IT."
The merger is a response to the movement across corporations that allow individual employees to bring in and use their own smartphones, tablets and other computing devices. The move away from industry-specific products has left some companies, especially BlackBerry - which had been used by most governmental employees for years in the US - where companies and agencies have become more open to allowing the use of personal devices as long as the security apparatus is in place.
That's where Divide came in to play as it allowed companies and agencies to organize files and material for only specific personnel that leadership wanted. It has been a positive for companies with larger numbers of employees and multiple platforms for file-sharing and other company-related products and files.
