Let's face it, the technology that makes Google Glass tick is cool, but when it comes down to the looks of the device, it comes off as very nerdy and unattractive by today's standards. If one will be blunt about it Google Glass is ugly and that's probably why the search giant has hired Ivy Ross from the fashion industry.
The consumer launch of Glass is edging closer every day, and Google clearly wants a device that not only has all the great features, but the looks as well to attract those who are into fashion. By hiring Ivy Ross, chances are the final product might turn out to be something special.
Who is Ivy Ross and why should you care.
She's a former fashion executive who once worked for Calvin Klein, Swatch, Mattel, Gap, and Disney. This should give everyone an idea of what this woman is capable of, and what she could do for Google as the head of Glass. This means she'll be pushing the product forward, in the hopes that the public will gravitate towards the device.
The public is skeptical of Google Glass, and who can blame them? The thing has a camera that can be used to record any activity, so of course many folks would feel that Glass violates their privacy to the point where they might want to punch someone in the eye.
"My name is Ivy Ross, and I'm excited to be joining Google on Monday, May 19 to lead our Glass efforts. With your help, I look forward to answering the seemingly simple, but truly audacious questions Glass poses," says Ross in a Google + statement.
Ross didn't specify in her letter what she plans to do now that she's the head of Google Glass. She will have her work cut out though as the task of convincing the American public not to disregard Glass will no doubt be difficult. Furthermore, the price will have to be just right, and if recent reports of Glass costing Google only $80, then it shouldn't be too difficult to get the price at the right point.
