Already on its way to becoming more popular than traditional cabs, the ride-sharing company Uber has been sweetening the deal lately by offering an annual ice cream delivery program around the world. And now Uber is adding another medium of transportation to bring the sweet treats by using drones to deliver ice cream to its customers in Singapore.
Uber announced in a blog post that it would bring back its ice cream delivery program for the fourth year to more than 250 cities, 58 countries and 6 continents. Those who open the Uber app on Friday, July 24, between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. can set their location and request ice cream to be delivered to their doorsteps within minutes.
Customers in the U.S. who have Capital One credit cards, including Capital One 360 customers, will be able to enter the promo code SWEETDEAL to get their dessert, but there are some places where the service will be free. In New York City, Uber is partnering with Ample Hills, Melt Bakery and Sprinkles to deliver ice cream sandwiches via the UberEats app, with $1 being donated to the Food Bank NYC.
Customers will receive their ice cream from either an Uber driver or a runner with a backpack, but this time the company is going high-tech for its costumers in southeast Asia by having drones do the job.
The drones will be restricted to delivering only in the areas near the marina because of strict licenses and permits needed to operate the drones. However, some lucky customers will have the technology bring them their order. In other cases, Uber's cars and runners will bring the frozen treats. Customers must order the four-serving minimum for $15.
Uber first launched the ice cream delivery service in Singapore two years ago.
