Ad-Free Flickr Pro Is Back From The Dead After Yahoo Killed It Two Years Ago

Flickr is bringing back Flickr Pro, a revamped paid subscription feature of the photography social networking site.

After a two-year hiatus, Flickr Pro has been revived with hopes to entice current and potential Flickr users to take advantage of the plan's added new perks. These include access to improved analytics, product discounts from Adobe and a "Pro" badge that will be displayed on their account to give them a distinction from non-paying account holders.

The last time that Yahoo made significant changes to the site's offered tiers was in Spring 2013. At that time, the company introduced the so-called "ad-free" and "doublr" tiers with the past version of Flickr Pro being temporarily shelved.

Apart from going through a huge aesthetic overhaul, Flickr also upgraded the storage size by up to 1TB to holders of free accounts which furthermore stressed the irrelevance of keeping the paid tier option. However, the company also offered users an ad-free option which charges $5.99 a month or $49.99 a year. So far, paying users only get one thing in exchange for their subscription which is none other than being able to use their account ad-free.

The same ad-free service is still being offered with the revived Flickr Pro. Only this time, users are getting more out of their subscription.

In addition to the above-mentioned features, Flickr Pro users who are paying for a yearly subscription are also entitled to a 20 percent discount on Adobe's Creative Cloud Photography which shall be good during the first year of their subscription. They can also enjoy free shipping on Flickr merchandise in any location within the U.S. or a 50 percent off in an international shipping with a minimum purchase of $25.

In other words, users who have signed up for the yearly "doublr" subscription are the ones who can enjoy the 20 percent discount and the shipping privileges which is understandable since they are paying $499.99 a year.

The move to bring such changes, as explained by a spokesperson for the company, was made as a response to user feedback.

As TechCrunch has quoted, "Over the years, we've made changes to our account options as the needs of our members have evolved," the spokesperson said. "With the success of the Flickr 4.0 launch, our new and existing members have asked for improved photo stats so they can learn more about the engagement on their photos along with the revival of the Flickr Pro badge."

Users should take note however that the revived Flickr Pro does not include an upgrade in their storage space. Existing paying customers will be automatically upgraded to the new Flickr Pro while they get to keep their account's pricing rate and the date of renewal that comes with their subscription.
