Honda has launched a refreshed 2016 Accord that features advanced technology for vehicles, and it will be the first model of Honda and among the first volume-produced vehicles out in the market that will support both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are operating systems created by Apple and Google for in-car technology. They are designed to provide drivers with a seamless integration of their smartphones, running on either Apple's iOS or Google's Android, into the systems of their vehicles.
Apple CarPlay will allow drivers to do on the vehicle's built-in display what they can do on the iPhone. Users can request for directions, receive and send messages, initiate calls and browse through and listen to their music. The users can do all of these using the touchscreen or through voice commands on Siri. The supported iPhone apps for Apple CarPlay include Messages, Phone, Music, Maps and other compatible third-party software. Apple CarPlay supports the iPhone 5s and later powered by iOS 7.1 or higher.
Android Auto, on the other hand, provides drivers with a simple and intuitive way to access the capabilities of their Android smartphones to allow the users to focus on the road while driving. Android Auto is supported by Android 5.0 Lollipop or later, and features Google Now, Google Maps, music, messaging and other compatible third-party apps.
The 2016 Accord on the EX and higher trims will feature a 7-inch display audio touchscreen interface that is compatible with either Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. The easy-to-use and intuitive touchscreen will allow drivers to control various components of the vehicle, such as its display settings, audio system, and other features.
The 7-inch touchscreen is supported by an upper 7.7-inch high-resolution screen that displays information such as turn-by-turn directions, audio settings, trip information, rear camera feeds, incoming messages and calls and alerts for parking sensors.
Among the other improvements made by Honda on the 2016 Accord include dynamic styling and Honda Sensing, which is the most complete collection of driver assistance and safety technologies on a mid-sized vehicle. The 2016 Accord will also feature an HD Radio, heated seats in the rear, parking sensors and several other new technologies and features which will be unveiled over the next few weeks.
