A life-size statue outside of a stadium is usually reserved for a Hall of Famer or late, legendary athlete... not a 23-year-old star, who scarily might not even be in his prime yet.
That said, the Los Angeles Angels are going against the grain, announcing that they'll erect a statue of the 2014 American League MVP and newly crowned All-Star MVP, Mike Trout, outside of Angel Stadium during a ceremony before the game on Friday night, July 24. But this won't be any life-size monument. It will be a life-size bobblehead statue, according to ESPN.
"I can't wait to see it," Trout told reporters Tuesday, July 21. "I think it's pretty cool."
With the star center fielder standing a stout 6'2" and 230 pounds, a life-size bobblehead replica will not be easy to construct, but Angels communication director Eric Kay did tell the media that the statue will be "thick."
The pre-game presentation, which will unveil the Trout statue, will start 8 p.m. on Friday night — two hours before the Angels begin a three-game home weekend series with the Texas Rangers. The best part about this is that Trout himself will be at the ceremony, seeing the statue for the first time with Angels fans alike.
Last week, Tech Times pointed out how Trout, at 23, is already in Hall of Fame company. The star slugger is currently among Major League Baseball's leaders in batting average (.307), home runs (28) and RBI (57).
And now he can boast that he has his own statue, too.
