Runners will never again have to worry about running out of songs before their workout is off (or that teeth-grinding moment when an Adele song pops up during a HAM leg around the track): partners Spotify and Nike+ have just released an app update that creates a playlist for the ideal run, all based on user preferences.
The update incorporates findings that affect the way runners perceive music — and how it affects their performance — during a typical workout, as well as "[building] upon the success of the Nike+ Run Club playlists already on Spotify [to] enhancing runners' overall in-run music experience," according to a press statement issued by Nike+ and published on both their company websites.
Meant as an upgrade for Nike+'s current Run Club playlists, the update also serves as a backdoor introduction to Pace Stations, which lets subscribers personalize their playlists with music preferences and — you guessed it — their pace goals. In turn, Spotify curates a playlist of 100 songs, hand-picking them from the 30 million or so currently in their database.
The update was released July 20 — just in time for running season — and is now available to users, with the option of a one-week free trial.
