Monster Strike has been one of the top-selling mobile games in Japan since its release in 2013 and has become popular after a worldwide release for iOS and Android.
Because of that, the game developer, Mixi, started planning an anime series based on the game, and fortunately, that will also see an international release later this year, on October 10.
The premiere episode, along with other episodes, will be more like minisodes, with a running time of around seven minutes. Mixi plans on releasing it in multiple languages, including Japanese, English, Chinese and Korean. New episodes will air every Saturday after the October 10 premiere.
However, you won't see Monster Strike on TV: it will appear exclusively on YouTube every week, because Mixi wanted a solution that gave it the widest audience.
The official Monster Strike series website also recently released a new trailer for the film:
It seems that the anime's story revolves around the mobile game coming to life.
The Monster Strike game also remains popular, especially with a Nintendo 3DS version on the way. The official Monster Strike website describes the game this way:
"Slingshot monsters and watch as they bounce around like pinballs, destroying enemies in their wake. Play with up to three other friends in this co-op action RPG. Become a master and collect over 1,000 unique and powerful monsters — staking your claim as the best Striker around!"
The Monster Strike game is officially a hit: experts estimate that the game takes in close to $4 million per day, making it one of the most successful mobile games in Japan. However, most of that money comes from Japanese players, so Mixi hopes that expanding the game to Nintendo 3DS and creating an anime series will help boost sales worldwide.
"Mixi does have a hard time in one important area: internationalization," said analyst and consultant Serkan Toto to VentureBeat. "Months after launch there, we are not hearing much about Monster Strike's performance in key regions like the U.S. or China, and I don't think I have to tell you what that means."
