PlayStation 4 (PS4) gamers have long been requesting a universal media remote for the console and their prayers are now answered.
PS4 players have been asking for such a remote ever since the PS4 console made its official debut back in November 2013, as many would rather control their media using a remote instead of the DualShock controller. A remote adds more convenience and enhances the overall experience, but so far Sony made no offer in this regards.
Fast forward to present date and such a device is now finally a reality, going up for pre-order on Amazon for $29.99. Called the "PDP Universal Media Remote," the device is an officially licensed product of Sony Computer Entertainment and works with the PS4 console, allowing users to control up to four devices.
"The officially licensed Universal Media Remote for PlayStation 4 gives you complete control of all PS4 media playback via Bluetooth," reads the product description on Amazon.
"Easily control up to 4 devices-PS4, Set Top Box, TV, and Audio Receiver-and enjoy direct access to the PS4 Home and Power buttons without a controller. Enjoy a convenient and hassle-free way to navigate and control your PlayStation 4 system from your couch."
The gadget has several PS4 buttons users will find familiar, including the triangle, circle, square and X buttons. The "Share" and "Options" buttons are part of the mix as well. The design seems to be quite ergonomic, sporting the PS4 branding on its bottom and the system's logo on its back.
Interested customers can now pre-order the PDP Universal Media Remote from Amazon for $29.99, but they won't actually receive the device until Oct. 31. It may not be as affordable as some likely hoped, but it's nonetheless worth taking into account considering the convenience it offers.
Lastly, it's worth pointing out that Amazon is also offering a neat bundle, selling the PDP Universal Media Remote with the grey Dualshock 4 controller for $94.98. This bundle allows for notable savings compared to the total price of the items purchased separately, so it sweetens the deal even further. The PDP Universal media remote doesn't seem to be available in Europe at this point, but it could widen its reach at a later date.
