Action camera manufacturer GoPro has unveiled a premium content licensing portal, named GoPro Licensing, which is the next step in providing rewards to the community of people that take awesome GoPro videos.
The portal will allow global brands and agencies in advertising to purchase licenses for premiere videos and images created by GoPro users.
The offering looks to inspire professionals in the creative field to use the creations of GoPro users, which contain incredible stories, beautiful imagery and rich data. In addition, it is another way through which GoPro can provide rewards to the creator community that uses the company's action cameras.
The GoPro premium content licensing portal is very unique as it contains content with high production values, all of which are accessible through a single source. The portal also allows creative professionals to hurdle the most difficult parts of sourcing content to use in their projects by assisting them in clearing all copyrights as well as likeness rights. These creative professionals are given easy access to the contained content of the portal, which also features various time-saving and organized tools to search, preview and download content to be used in advertising projects, news reports and other forms of entertainment and media.
"We've gotten calls almost daily from creative agencies, TV networks and film studios that want to use our content," said GoPro head of programming Adam Dornbusch. These companies will now be able to acquire content from GoPro through the online portal of GoPro Licensing, which is now accepting applications.
"The most significant difference between regular user-generated content and GoPro content is higher quality and footage [that comes from] in and around spaces that are not easily captured," said 72andSunny business affairs director Michelle Slusser McKinney. She also said that GoPro clips engage consumers more as opposed to the standard user-made content found on video sharing websites such as YouTube.
"It brings a unique, first-person experience with content that also differs from traditional licensed content," McKinney added.
GoPro Licensing will launch with over 600 videos included in the portal, created by both amateur and professional videographers using the company's action camera. The plan is to further expand the database of videos on the portal, with the company looking to make GoPro Licensing for videos the equivalent of Shutterstock and Getty Images for still pictures.
The videos will begin with prices of $1,000 each, and will increase depending on the extent of the planned commercial usage for the video and its distribution.
