HBO Now Is Now Available On Android And Amazon Fire Devices

HBO Now is no longer available exclusively to Apple devices. The company announced on Thursday that it will now offer its stand-alone internet streaming service to Android and Amazon Fire tablets.

"Amazon has cultivated an incredibly vast and savvy base of customers that we're excited to provide with unlimited access to all of HBO through HBO NOW," said Bernadette Aulestia, Executive VP of Global Distribution Operations of HBO in a press release. "The addition of Amazon devices is another great stride in the distribution of HBO NOW and affirmation of our long-standing partnership with Amazon."

Additionally, HBO Now will soon be available on Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick in the coming weeks.

"If there's one thing Fire TV and Fire tablet customers are telling us, it's that they love to watch their favorite movies and TV shows," said VP of Amazon Appstore Steve Rabuchin. "This is why the team is doubling down on adding great new movies and TV shows for Fire TV and Fire tablet customers — in less than five months, we've added over 700 new channels, apps, and games to Amazon Fire TV, and over 300,000 apps are now available on Fire tablets."

He added:

"HBO has produced some of the most groundbreaking and award-winning TV shows and movies, and we are excited to introduce HBO Now on Fire tablets and soon on Fire TV."

Not to be confused with HBO Go, HBO Now allows users to access all of the premium cable services' original TV series, movies, documentaries, and sports and music programming without the need for a HBO subscription. To take advantage of HBO Now, users just need internet access and $14.99 a month.

Android and Amazon Fire users will get a free trial of the service for 30 days upon signing up through Google Play or the Amazon App Store.

With HBO Now no longer exclusive to Apple devices such as the iPhone, iPad and Apple TV after its April 7 launch, Android users can now catch up on HBO content like Game of Thrones or True Detective on-the-go. The stand-alone streaming service can now be downloaded on any Android 4.1 smartphone or tablet, and will also work for Amazon's Fire OS device that includes the Fire HD 6, Fire HD 7 and Fire HDX 8.9.
