Hewlett-Packard (HP) is getting ready to ship its newest Windows 10 PCs on July 29, but customers do not have to wait until then if they want to get their new computers at launch.
Mike Nash, HP's vice president of product strategy and customer experience, says the company will start shipping Windows 10 devices on July 28, a day before Microsoft's official launch, so that buyers can receive their devices on their doorstep on July 29, the launch day itself. However, those who want to get the new PCs on that day will have to buy them now.
"Right now, a customer can buy select PCs with Windows 10 directly from HP.com and it will ship on July 29th," Nash said in a blog post. "We are offering free next-day shipping so customers will receive the device on July 29th."
The select PCs available with Windows 10 will be the HP15, Envy x360 and Spectre x360 laptops, which will be available in four different Windows 10 configurations. The HP Pavilion 550 and HP All-In-One desktops will be available in three configurations at launch, but other PCs will become available later.
Customers who plan on walking to a physical store, however, will be disappointed to know that they will have to wait until Aug. 2 before they can buy a Windows 10 PC, but even Nash said "no one should be freaking out at all," since the vast majority of devices running on a legitimate Windows platform will eventually be able to upgrade to Windows 10.
Acer and Lenovo are also reportedly gearing up for the July 29 launch, while Dell President Michael Dell also took to Twitter to announce that it will be ready to ship its own products running on Windows 10 on July 29, although the first customers can expect to receive their shipments on July 30, a day after HP.
The announcements follow Microsoft's backtracking on an earlier statement that it did not expect PC makers to start shipping Windows 10 devices on July 29 because the final version has not been shipped to them yet. However, in an email to Bloomberg, Microsoft confirmed that some manufacturers will be able to ship their devices on launch day.
