If there's one downside of Comic-Con, it's that there's no telling when any of the footage shown at the convention will be released for the public. It makes sense - the people who actually make the trip to the show should be rewarded for it - but for everyone else, the wait for actual, officially-released footage can be a nightmare.
Thankfully, Warner Bros. doesn't seem all that concerned about keeping its footage under wraps for too long: after releasing the new Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice trailer online alongside its Comic-Con panel, the studio has now released the first official footage from Suicide Squad!
You know what that means: not only do fans finally get to see the team in action, but Warner Bros. will finally confirm what is going on with Jared Leto's take on the Joker...
First up, the Joker: love it or hate it, those tattoos are here to stay. At the very least, Leto's voice sound pretty spot-on, though fans will still have to wait and see if he can pull off a full-sized Joker cackle.
Secondly, there are a surprising amount of ties to the larger DC Cinematic Universe littered throughout the trailer. Obviously, the appearance of Batman chasing down Harley Quinn is the biggest one, though references to Superman and his fight with Zod at the end of Man of Steel firmly plant Suicide Squad within the DC Cinematic Universe - hopefully, this isn't the last time we see these sorts of connections between DC's films.
Sadly, there's still quite a ways to go before the movie hits theaters: Suicide Squad is set to debut on Aug. 5, 2016.
