Samsung is rumored to unveil the Galaxy Note 5 in August. A new report claims the phablet will definitely pack in 4 GB of RAM when it's officially announced.
Most smartphone manufacturers stick to an annual launch timeframe when introducing their latest and greatest devices. Prior to Apple's iPhone 4S, which was officially announced in October 2011, the company held all previous iPhone launches in the summer. Since then, iPhone fans have been treated to new devices in the fall.
Samsung has used the IFA tradeshow in Berlin to launch its latest generation Galaxy Note phablet since 2011, and last year's event saw the company unveil the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge. The actual release of both smartphones was overshadowed by Apple's entry into the phablet arena with its 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus.
We reported back in June that Samsung was reportedly planning to move up the release of its Galaxy Note 5 to August in an attempt to beat Apple's rumored September launch of its upcoming iPhone 6s Plus, which will go head to head with the Note 5. We have a pretty good idea of what we can expect from the Galaxy Note 5 in terms of some of its specs, and a new report confirms the phablet will boast 4 GB of LP-DDR4 RAM.
SamMobile is reporting that it has received a tip from one of its reliable sources that claims the next-generation Samsung Galaxy Note 5 will feature 4 GB of LP-DDR4 RAM. This move would be the first smartphone from Samsung to include 4 GB of RAM, as its latest flagship Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge sport 3 GB of RAM.
The site also claims that the Galaxy Note 5 will also be the first device to use Samsung's Exynos 7422 SoC, which is a single-chip solution that combines a speedy octa-core processor, GPU, RAM, storage and Shannon 333 LTE modem. Other reported specs include a 5.67-inch 2560 by 1440 quad-HD Super AMOLED display, enhanced S Pen capabilities and wireless charging built in.
3D renders of the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 were posted online recently and show off the phablet's new design, which is heavily influenced by the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. The Galaxy Note 5 is expected to be available in four colors: black, white, silver and gold.
We'll keep you updated on any new Galaxy Note 5 information as it becomes available.
