The world is just a little bit more than two weeks away from the unveiling of Windows 10, Microsoft's next and last version of its operating system, and the enthusiasm surely is starting to bubble over.
The latest leak about the upcoming software shows the packaging material Microsoft will be using for Windows 10. The images, which were first posted on the German website WinFuture, shows a simple package that showcases what the user interface of Windows 10 looks like for potential buyers.
Microsoft is trying to undo the effects of Windows 8 and is steering clear of all the mistakes it made with the last version of its OS. That is also applied to Microsoft's marketing strategy as the Redmond-based software company is going after simple box art that conveys a clear idea of what Windows 10 looks like.
Unlike the packaging of Windows 8, which has Microsoft's Windows logo splashed prominently on the center, the Windows 10 package features what looks to be a Windows 10 screen with the Start Menu combining the classic menu list and the touch-friendly Metro tiles that made their debut on the much maligned Windows 8. At the center of the screen is what appears to be the Windows 10 wallpaper made out of light, which as Microsoft details in this YouTube video, took pains to develop using lasers, projectors and mapping techniques.
The simplicity of the design also extends to the packaging of the USB drive copies that Microsoft is planning to launch along with the CD drive version. For the USB copies, the packaging will be even more minimalist, showing off just a simple Windows logo in blue or purple at the center of the box.
After several months of building up the excitement for Windows 10, Microsoft will finally be launching the OS on July 29. However, the first customers will only be able to upgrade their system to Windows 10 via an online update. Buyers who would like to get Windows 10 through the physical copies will have to wait at a later date before they can purchase Windows 10.
