With Windows 10 gearing up for a PC release in barely a month, Microsoft seems to be prepping flagship Lumia smartphones, which will allegedly boast the new Windows 10 Mobile OS.
Now, rumor has it that the impending Lumia 940 and Lumia 940 XL smartphones will tout a polycarbonate body and will command a price tag that is higher than those of the top-end iPhone 6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 smartphones.
Since the smartphones will have a polycarbonate body, one would think that the devices would be cheaper than the metal-clad Galaxy S6 and iPhone 6. However, it is not so. It may even be a bit of a contradiction.
Tech Times previously reported that a leaked image of the alleged Lumia 940 suggested that the smartphone would tout a metal body.
The latest information comes courtesy of MyWindows.nl, a Dutch blog whose source has claimed that the Lumia 940 and Lumia 940 XL Windows 10 Mobile flagships will be priced steeply.
The Samsung flagship commands a $699 price tag for the unlocked 32GB version, whereas the 16GB iPhone 6 costs $649. We can only hazard a guess that the Lumia 940 would be around the $750 mark with ease if the rumor is true and the bigger sibling Lumia 940 XL will be priced higher, perhaps in the $750 to $900 range. That is, of course, a guess.
The publication's sources have also let on that the Lumia smartphones will hit shelves in early November, which means holiday shoppers will have another handset to choose from.
The Lumia 940 and Lumia 940 XL will also take things a step further: what may justify its higher pricing is the suggestion that the smartphones will pack in iris scanners instead of a fingerprint scanner. Both devices are also rumored to offer Continuum support, but users will still require an adapter that Microsoft is speculated to launch in early 2016 to enable the functionality. Continuum aims to bring a desktop PC-like experience to mobile devices by allowing these to be connected to an actual PC screen, keyboard and mouse.
The Lumia 940 will allegedly boast a 5.2-inch (1080 x 1920 pixels resolution) with 424 ppi. Under the hood, it will house a Snapdragon 808 processor with hexagon CPU in tow and 3GB of RAM. The smartphone will also pack in 32GB of on-board storage that is expandable, as well as a 20MP rear-facing PureView camera. Selfie lovers will enjoy the 5MP secondary snapped. Moreover, the triple LED feature will enable users to click enhanced images in low-light environments. The smartphone will come with Windows 10 Mobile out of the box.
The Lumia 940 XL, on the other hand, will boast a 5.7-inch display with 1440 x 2560 resolution with 515ppi pixel density. It will house a 64-bit Snapdragon 810 chipset and an octa-core CPU, as well as 3GB of RAM. Like its sibling, the Lumia 940 XL will also have 32GB of on-board storage that is expandable and the 20MP and 5MP cameras, along with triple LED flash capabilities and Windows 10 Mobile OS preloaded.
