English and Welsh are the official languages of the Wales, but when it comes to matters of the Unidentified and Flying, it would seem that the Welsh government is not shy about expanding its linguistic flavors.
To the delight of Star Trek fans, sci-fi geeks, and UFO enthusiasts alike, a spokesperson for the government responded to a query from Shadow Health Minister Darren Millar, in Klingon - the language of the forehead ridged, battle-hungry aliens from Star Trek.
Millar had been inquiring about UFO sighting details and whether further research would be funded by the government.
According to reports, Millar asked questions on the following topics:
- Whether the minister will make a statement on the reports of UFOs at the Cardiff Airport ever since it was acquired by the Welsh government.
- If the Welsh government had any discussions with the Ministry of Defence about UFOs in Wale in the past five years.
- If the Welsh government is considering funding research into UFO activity in Wales?
"jang vIDa je due luq. ach ghotvam'e' QI'yaH devolve qaS," was the official response.
(That's: "The minister will reply in due course. However this is a non-devolved matter," for those who are not familiar with the language.)
This is the first time anyone is aware of that any government has chosen to reply in an official statement in Klingon which is one of the most developed and used modern ConLangs (constructed languages).
In response to the rather unusual response from the government, Millar said in reply, "I've always suspected that Labour ministers came from another planet. This response confirms it."
To the Welsh government, we raise our glasses to you and can only hope it will adopt trilingualism more often and respond to more official matters in Klingon. IwlIj jachjaj!
