Taylor Swift managed to subtly arm-twist Apple into paying artists royalty even during the three-month trial period. Now, the Grammy Award-winning singer has done it again—that is, convince yet another company albeit covertly.
The singer has persuaded crowdfunding site GoFundMe to raise the limit on individual donations. The site helps people raise funds not only for charitable causes, such as medical expenses, but also for celebrations and challenging circumstances.
The previous limit on donations made by an individual in a single transaction was capped at $15,000. GoFundMe has now raised the same to $50,000, thanks to Taylor Swift.
On Tuesday, July 7, the singer donated $50,000 toward the medical expenses of Naomi Oakes, a little girl who was fighting leukemia. Her uncle Brandon Adams created the GoFundMe page Naomi's Fight Against Cancer to raise money for the incurring medical expenses.
Swift's $50,000 donation to the cause was the biggest in GoFundMe's history, making her the highest individual donor. As a result of the donation, the fundraising site has now increased the limit more than threefold.
"Taylor Swift's donation was so generous that it required us to increase the donation limit on the platform," said Rob Solomon, CEO of GoFundMe, in a statement. "What Ms. Swift has done for Naomi and others can inspire the next generation of giving."
GoFundMe, however, has no limits on the donations a campaign can receive. Naomi's Fight Against Cancer has raised close to $75,000 thanks to almost 500 generous donors (at the time of writing) in the two weeks that the campaign has been running. The campaign has surpassed its target of raising $30,000.
Swift's generous action amazed little Naomi who thanked her in a video message. To donate to Naomi's cause, head over to her GoFundMe page.
