Writer Warren Ellis Brings 'James Bond 007' Back To Comics In November

Our favorite secret agent will be gracing the big screen this fall in the 24th James Bond film called Spectre, but fans may also be pleased to know that this isn't the only medium he's coming back in.

Dynamite Entertainment announced months ago a partnership with Ian Fleming Publishings LTD to bring our favorite spy back to the world of comics in the U.S. for the first time in over two decades. The new partnership means the company will be publishing plenty of 007 comics over the next decade.

And now Dynamite has announced the first ongoing series of this new agreement, called James Bond 007, will be released the same month as the theatrical release of Spectre, starring Daniel Craig.

Writer Warren Ellis (known for his extensive work in comics including Transmetropolitan and Marvel's Moon Knight) will bring Bond back to the pages of comics alongside artist Jason Masters (Guardians of the Galaxy, Batman Incorporated).

"Warren Ellis is one of the most brilliant writers of the 21st century, not just in comics but across all media," CEO and Publisher of Dynamite Entertainment Nick Barrucci said in a press release. "When we approached him for the launch, we hoped he could make time in his very busy schedule, and we are fortunate and thankful that he was able to. We met with Warren and everyone at IFPL, and Warren's passion for the novels showed. He really is the perfect writer for Bond, and I can't express how excited we are that he is tackling the ongoing series. This will be James Bond unlike anything you've ever seen before, true to Ian Fleming's source material yet bursting all preconceptions of what a Bond story should be."

The new series will feature six issues, the first titled "VARGAR," which follows Bond going back to London to take over for a fallen 00 Section agent, while something evil starts to unravel as "sinister plan are being laid for Bond in Berlin."

"Ian Fleming's James Bond is an icon, and it's a delight to tell visual narratives with the original, brutal, damaged Bond of the books," Ellis said in the Dynamite press release.

Dynamite Senior Editor Joseph Rybandt told Comic Book Resources that Warren's story will be grounded in real life, although it's "a different Bond is some ways, pulling from the material of the books and the original tropes of the character, but put very firmly into our world and covering a range of locales and settings."

Dynamite's partnership with IFPL is a 10 year deal, with Warren signed up for at least one arc.

James Bond 007 will hit shelves November 2015.
