Born Diana Love Dill, model and actress Diana Douglas passed away on Friday in Woodland Hills, Calif. after battling cancer. She was 92.
Diana belonged to a family of actors. She was the first wife of actor Kirk Douglas. She was the mother of actor Michael Douglas, who is married to Catherine Zeta-Jones. Diana appeared with both Kirk and Michael in the 2003 movie It Runs in the Family.
Her acting career began at Warner Bros. while her modeling started when she appeared on the cover of Life magazine in 1943. She was described in the magazine as dressed in "frilly Gibson Girl spring fashions."
"She was a person much beloved by everyone," said Donald Webster, her husband of 15 years. "One of her greatest qualities was that she was always thinking of the other person."
Diana and Donald were married in 2002.
Her marriage with Kirk Douglas in 1943, which was the actress' first marriage, ended in divorce in 1951. However, the couple maintained civility in their relationship and remained on good terms. They had two sons, Michael and Joel.
Diana's second marriage was with actor Bill Darrid, which lasted from 1956 to 1992 when Bill passed away.
"I know Michael has said since being an adult that he was always very grateful that we never did badmouth each other," said Diana on her divorce with Kirk. "Sometimes we probably wanted to. And also, I think that after [Kirk] got married to Anne, [she] made it very much easier, because she and I cooperated very much in terms of bedtimes and what they could watch on television and that kind of thing."
Diana is also survived by her grandchildren Cameron Douglas, 36, Michael's son with ex-wife Diandra Morrell Douglas; Dylan Michael Douglas, 14, and Carys Zeta Douglas, 12, Michael's children with wife Catherine Zeta-Jones.
Diana appeared in a number of films and TV shows. Some of her movies included Planes, Trains & Automobiles (1987), The Star Chamber (1983), Loving (1970), Monsoon (1952), Storm Over Tibet (1952), House of Strangers by Joseph L. Mankiewicz (1949), and The Sign of the Ram (1948). She portrayed Martha Evans on the 70s and 80s soap opera hit Days of Our Lives. She also made appearances on shows such as The West Wing and Dynasty.
