Aiming to cash in on the low-budget consumer market Lenovo is debuting two new Chromebooks that cost less than $400 and feature a battery life of up to eight hours.
The Lenovo N20 and Lenovo N20p are aimed at students and shopping enthusiasts and are very similar in style and features with an Intel celeron processor, 16GB of storage and 2GB of RAM. They're both about 0.7 inches thick and weigh in at less than three pounds. But they still boast a full-sized keyboard and the N20p has a comfortable-sized touch pad.
The biggest difference is that one, the N20P, comes with a unique design element, a 300-degree hinge that gives it some yoga-like flexibility. The laptop can be folded into a display mode but not into a tablet mode.
Consumers can choose from using Google Chrome or Windows 8.1.
The new laptops are exactly what Lenovo promised in January as company leaders discussed their new Chromebook strategy kicking off come this summer.
But it's the pricing that may end up being the differentiator as the non-touch laptop option starts at $279. According to Lenovo the computing devices will be at retailers come late July, just in time for the back-school shopping season. The education market is a big focus for Lenovo.
