If Warner Bros. had done a Man of Steel sequel instead of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, then chances are Metallo would have been the main villain.
Before it was revealed that Lex Luthor is the primary villain in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, many fans believed that Metallo would make an appearance in the movie as one of the baddies, but that didn't happen. However, it could have if Batman v Superman was a different film.
According to director Zack Snyder, the earlier plan was to create a Man of Steel sequel where Metallo would come in and give Superman something to think about, but then Batman was introduced and things changed quite fast.
"I remember talking about 'What's the next villain?'" Snyder said. "'We can't do another alien invasion.' Brainiac was definitely down the road. Metallo, I think, was going to be the main bad guy of this movie."
What is clear here is that Snyder is definitely planning to use Metallo in the years to come, and we can't wait to see what he brings to the table with this character who has long proven to be a deadly adversary for Superman.
As for Brainiac, we've long known he would make an appearance in the DC Cinematic Universe, and from what Snyder has to say, there seem to be a high chance he might become the main villain in Justice League Part One and Part Two.
We've seen what Marvel can do with its own robotic super villain, so it would be interesting to see what Warner Bros. can do with DC's own.
No word on when fans can expect to see a real sequel to Man of Steel, but we suspect this might happen before 2020 if the rumor of Ben Affleck directing a Batman movie for 2018 holds true.
For a Man of Steel sequel, we'd want someone apart from Snyder and Goyer working on it. Man of Steel wasn't a bad film, but the writing was not up to scratch, and the directing was weak in several areas.
