Now that it's summer, chances are you are probably spending a lot of time around the water, whether you're going surfing at your local beach, fishing on the lake or swimming at your family barbecue.
However, for those who aren't seasoned swimmers, the fear of drowning may hold them back from enjoying summer activities. Parents may also worry about their young children in the water. Of course, you could always choose to put on a life jacket, but these are often bulky, and children often want to rip off their flotation devices.
This wrist-worn life preserver might just the ideal way to remain safe in the water. Kingii is a portable floatation device that comfortably secures onto any size wrist. The smallest inflatable in the world, the water safety wearable is up to 78 times smaller than a standard life jacket but could still save your life.
Kingii is equipped with an inflation bag that is released from the bag pouch within one second when the user lifts a handle, which releases an internal CO2 cartridge that inflates the bag. The inflation bag is bright orange, making it visible, and has a hexagonal shape that is easy to hold onto. Once the handle is pulled and the bag employs, the user's hand and face are immediately pulled up to the surface of the water.
This inflatable is also reusable: simply unscrew the plastic cap to refill the CO2 cartridge and press down on the balloon to fold it back into the pouch. Once the rechargeable cartridge is replaced, the Kingii is ready to be used again.
This wearable also comes with a compass and whistle in case the user is lost out at sea or needs to call attention to a lifeguard or people nearby.
Kingii is perfect for cases of exhaustion, when someone is caught in strong currents, when suffering from poor circulation or cramps or for kids when an adult is not around. It can give parents and summer sport enthusiasts a sense of security when on a boat, board or in the water themselves.
Surprisingly, most drowning victims have a life jacket nearby but choose not to wear it. After Kingii founder Tom Agapiades lost a friend who drowned, he was inspired to create a non-intrusive wearable to save people's lives.
Kingii is seeking crowdfunding to help in its launch and has already raised over $413,000, well over its $65,000 goal, on Indiegogo. For $79, consumers can get Kingii and its two replacement cylinders.
