Universal Pictures has released the first full trailer for the upcoming Steve Jobs biopic, starring a barely recognizable Michael Fassbender as the Apple icon. And his turn as a monomaniacal, narcissistic, bloodthirsty genius Jobs is, from what we can tell, intensely riveting.
Here is the plot, according to Universal:
"Set backstage at three iconic product launches and ending in 1998 with the unveiling of the iMac, Steve Jobs takes us behind the scenes of the digital revolution to paint an intimate portrait of the brilliant man at its epicenter."
Within the first minute of the trailer, Jobs delivers the perfect Machiavellian one-hitter: "Musicians play their instruments. I play the orchestra." The quip sets the bar for what we're about to see, giving viewer a schadenfreudian sense of vicious glee.
It's no surprise that the screenplay was written by Aaron Sorkin, godfather of The West Wing, The Social Network, and The Newsroom - the one-liners alone might as well be watermarked with his name. And from all indications, this is Sorkin at his best.
The movie is adapted from Walter Isaacson's eponymous biography. Directed by Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire), the movie also features Seth Rogen, Kate Winslet, and Jeff Daniels, completing the star-studded cast.
The set release for the biopic is October 2015, which will mark the fourth anniversary of Jobs' death.
