Apple has opened the enrollment period for the annual Apple Camp program, a series of workshops lasting three days, which the company holds within its retail stores, targeting children who are eight to 12 years old.
Apple Camp is designed to encourage children in exploring technology and learning how to use it properly as a creative outlet.
Apple Camp will be featuring two workshops for this year, namely "Interactive Storytelling with iBooks" and "Stories in Motion with iMovie."
In "Interactive Storytelling with iBooks," children will be painting illustrations using the iPad, and then will switch to the Mac computer to produce sound effects and generate multi-touch user interfaces in the iBooks Author.
In "Stories in Motion with iMovie," children will be taught to use the capabilities of the iPad to create storyboards from their own ideas, take videos then create soundtracks from the GarageBand of iOS. After the several components are finished, the children will then transfer all the content to a Mac computer, where the kids will stitch together the parts using iMovie.
The workshops will be held in Apple Stores all over the United States, China, Canada, Germany, France, Japan, Hong Kong, the Netherlands, Italy, Sweden, Spain, Turkey, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Apple Camp sessions will be held on various dates, from July 20 to August 7.
Enrollment in Apple Camp is completely free. However, slots are limited, so parents who are looking to have their children participate should sign up at Apple Camp's website as soon as they can.
Apple has another free program for youth offered through its retail stores, namely the Field Trip events, which allow teachers to take their students to visit an Apple Store. The Field Trip will allow the students to create things on the spot, or bring along with them a project that they have already finished and use the Apple Store as a theater.
Registration for Field Trips is not yet open, however. Teachers who are interested in the event can also sign up to receive a notification when Apple opens registration.
