Microsoft is preparing to launch two new flagship smartphones to coincide with the launch of Windows 10 Mobile. One of those handsets, the Lumia 940 XL has made an appearance on GFXBench, revealing the phablet's complete spec list.
A common trend we've been seeing in top of the line Android smartphones has been the inclusion of high-resolution Quad HD displays. The 2560 x 1440 resolution provides users with a gorgeous and ultra sharp display that makes text, web browsing, watching videos, and more look amazing. Samsung and LG's latest premium smartphones, the Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, and LG G4 all sport Quad HD displays and now Windows Phone fans are going to gain the feature in two of Microsoft's upcoming Windows 10 Mobile smartphones.
We recently reported that a smartphone believed to be the Lumia 940 made an appearance on popular benchmarking site, GFXBench. The results provided a run down of the specs of the smartphone, which put it on a more level playing field with flagship Android smartphones, including a 5.2-inch Quad HD display and 64-bit hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808.
The Microsoft Lumia 940 is also expected to be offered in a phablet-sized version to compete with Apple's upcoming iPhone 6s Plus and Samsung Galaxy Note 5. The phablet is expected to officially be called the Lumia 940 XL and just like its smaller sibling, the jumbo-sized smartphone made an appearance of GFXBench, revealing its specs.
The GFXBench lists the Lumia 940 XL by its model number of Nokia RM-1100 and confirms that the phablet will boast a 5.7-inch Quad HD display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440. Its camera capabilities are listed as having a 17-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel front-facing shooter for selfies and video chat. The processor is listed as being an octa-core Qualcomm chip, most likely the Snapdragon 810 because it includes an Adreno 430 GPU (graphics processing unit).
While the Lumia 940 XL's RAM is listed as 1.5GB, it's widely expected to be 2GB and the phablet will also include 16GB of internal storage and microSD expansion slot.
Microsoft hasn't announced when the first Windows 10 Mobile smartphones will hit the market but most reports claim the Lumia 940 and Lumia 940 XL will go on sale in September. As always, we'll keep you posted on any new Lumia news as it becomes available.
