David Crosby shared his thoughts on the current condition of Joni Mitchell and said that the artist is not speaking yet. Crosby wished only the best for Mitchell who he considers as a longtime friend and the greatest living singer-songwriter he has known so far.
Crosby and Mitchell had started dating since 1967. During that period, Crosby was still with the Byrds. In 1968, Mitchell signed up with Reprise Records where she recorded her own debut album.
In March this year, Mitchell, who is now 71 years old, was brought to the hospital after she was found unconscious in her house in Los Angeles. On April 28, the latest post on the artist's unofficial site said that Mitchell was still in the hospital and is expected to gain full recovery.
The website said that the singer was "resting comfortably" and that she continues to "improve and get stronger each day."
Her representatives added that "she's alert and she has her full senses" and denied that the artist was in a coma.
According to Crosby, Mitchell suffered from aneurysm although there was no official confirmation yet of the artist's true condition. In May, attorney Alan Watenmaker told a judge that Mitchell was not able to confer with the doctors at the hospital regarding her medical care and her treatment which could be long-term.
"I have not spoken to her," said Crosby. "To my knowledge, she is not speaking yet. She is home, she is in care, she is in recovery. How that's going to go, we don't know yet. She took a terrible hit. She had an aneurysm, and nobody found her for a while. And she's going to have to struggle back from it the way you struggle back from a traumatic brain injury."
Mitchell is a recipient of eight Grammy Awards including the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2002. That same year, she was appointed the Companion of the Order of Canada, the highest civilian honor in the country, along with fellow Canadian artists Leonard Cohen and Gordon Lightfoot.
"We're all holding our breath and thinking a good thought, hoping that it's going to turn out okay," said Crosby.
