Sony Xperia Z2 leaks with Verizon branding ahead of its release

Verizon customers will soon have a new high-end smartphone to consider, as a new report and leaked image by Sony reveal the Sony Xperia Z2 is headed to Verizon.

Sony has heavily relied on T-Mobile to offer its smartphones or sell them directly through the company's retail or online store. Things are about to change as a new report claims Verizon will soon be getting the Sony Xperia Z2. This is the first time Verizon will reportedly offer a Sony smartphone. It's a big deal for Sony as it looks to grow its already extremely low market share.

Sony accidentally posted an image of its Xperia Z2 with Verizon branding on its Google+ page, before quickly removing all traces of the picture. The above image was captured prior to Sony removing it from its Google+ page.

Verizon customers can look forward to a very capable smartphone that can go head to head with the Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC One M8 in terms of specs and features. Sony previously announced the Xperia Z2 at Mobile World Congress in February.

The Sony Xperia Z2 boasts a 5.2-inch 1920 x 1080 Full HD Triluminos display2- with a pixel density of 424 pixels per inch. The smartphone is made out of premium materials including an aluminum frame and glass panels. It features a high-end 20.7-megapixel rear camera that uses an MP Exmore RS for mobile image sensor and BIONZ for mobile image processing engine. This will ensure that you get the best possible image result.

Like the Samsung Galaxy S5, the Verizon Sony Xperia Z2 is certified to be both waterproof and dust-resistant. It's running Android 4.4, is powered by a 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and boasts a very healthy 3GB of RAM. The handset includes 16GB of internal storage and also has a microSD expansion slot that will support up to 128GB microSD cards. The smartphone will pack in a 4G LTE radio, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/na/a/c, Bluetooth LE and NFC.

Once we hear more details, we'll be sure to pass them on.
