Sony's Xperia Z3+ (Z4) has a bug that causes its camera to crash a few seconds after accessing certain features.
The issue was reported by Android news website Android Pit, with the camera of the Xperia Z3+ (Z4) crashing a few seconds after accessing the augmented reality mode or when attempting to take 4K video.
Being standard camera modes, these features should not be causing the Xperia Z3+ (Z4) to crash when accessed. Camera crashes in Xperia smartphones when taking 4K videos have been present since the Xperia Z2, but Sony has apparently failed to address the problem.
Android Pit also reported that a user that was playing a high-resolution game or doing benchmark tasks on the Xperia Z3+ (Z4) that would then access the camera would see a warning about overheating popping up after just a few seconds from having the camera open, with the camera crashing as quick as a few seconds after the notification appears.
It has been reported that Sony has been made aware of the problem, and that the company is working to release a firmware patch which would solve the issue.
Overheating issues have been a recurring problem in the Xperia Z3+ (Z4), along with other smartphones that are using Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 processor.
Owners of the smartphone in Japan have been complaining of overheating problems with the smartphone just days after the device was launched in the country, with the cause of the issue being suggested as the Snapdragon 810 processor.
The camera troubles were also reported by users in Japan, along with frequent slowdowns of the Xperia Z3+ (Z4)'s CPU as it attempts to cool itself down.
Some suggestions offered to mitigate the overheating issues include periodically shutting off the smartphone, turning off the device while charging, backing up data within the smartphone regularly and reducing the reliance on the device by using a PC or tablet instead when possible. None of these suggestions sound ideal, however, as it would basically make users reduce the usage of the Xperia Z3+ (Z4) to a level less than what it supposedly should be capable of.
While Sony is working to release a patch to solve the overheating and camera crashing issues of the Xperia Z3+ (Z4), it might be best for potential customers to hold off buying the device until the problems have definitely been solved.
