What do you get when you mash up an eBike and a car? Well, you get Ford's MoDe: Flex concept bicycle.
On Tuesday, Ford revealed its electric-assisted concept bicycle, which works hand-in-hand with its new smart watch app to help riders complete multimodal commutes by bike, car and train. A promotional video for the concept bike demonstrates how easily it can be taken apart and stored in a trunk.
Ford also promises that the electric-pedal assistance will help people enjoy longer rides.
"It's a bike that allows a person to go on any type of bike traveling that they would normally do," Ford's Senior Creative Designer Bruce Williams says in one of the promo clips. "With the electric assist, it allows them to go farther than they would normally be able to go, giving them a level of versatility, and also because of the way the bike is designed, you can take it apart and store it very easily in any Ford vehicle."
Don't be fooled by the frame's sleek look, though. The bike is made to tackle rugged terrain just as smoothly as a casual ride around the neighborhood. With the eBike market gaining interest, this concept bike should be a welcomed sight. Its multimodal commuting approach should be a hit with green lovers, as it doesn't contribute to clogged-up traffic or pollution. The only thing that remains a question is a possible price.
Have mercy on us, Ford!
