Rocksteady's Batman: Arkham series comes to an end this week with the release of Batman: Arkham Knight. The game features the same blockbuster storytelling and tight gameplay as the previous installments in the series, but more importantly, the studio poured the same love and attention to detail into its grand finale.
No Arkham game is complete without some Easter eggs that pay homage to Batman's world and the DC Universe as a whole.
Nearly every crevice, alleyway and billboard in Gotham is plastered with a wink, nod or reference to the Dark Knight's incredible career, and it could take days just to find all of the big ones.
Thankfully that's exactly what we're here to do.
Over the next few weeks, we'll be compiling all of the best Easter eggs into this article, so you can check out what we've found below. Be sure to come back again to see what else we stumbled upon as the days and weeks go by.
The Black Canary Club
This is obviously a nod to the Black Canary, and it's even more relevant now that the Canary is the lead singer for a punk rock band in the comics.
The GCPD Evidence Room
This one is a fairly obvious one. The evidence room in the GCPD headquarters is filled with the weapons and costumes of villains from past Arkham games. Each display also comes complete with a backstory for where these villains are now. If you're obsessed with Arkham lore, this is a can't-miss.
Lex Corp
One of the signs around Gotham is for none other than Lex Corp, which is the company owned by Lex Luthor. The sign claims the company is bringing hope to Gotham, but comic book fans know better than to trust that...
Off To Metropolis
Right during the game's opening interactive cut scene in the diner is a small advertisement for Metropolis, home of Superman. There's even an image of the Daily Planet to get you fantasizing about a Rocksteady version of the Man of Steel...
The Shakespeare Bust
Remember in the old '60s Batman show when Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson would enter the Batcave through a hidden button located inside the head of a Shakespeare bust? Well the bust made it to the Arkham series, located in Oracle's clock tower.
Kord!
It's not much, but Ted Kord, aka the original Blue Beetle, gets a shout out in this game as his company's logo is shown on a car dealership.
The Gray Ghost
Fans of Batman: The Animated Series will instantly recognize this poster for The Gray Ghost located in Oracle's clock tower. In The Animated Series, the Gray Ghost was shown as Bruce Wayne's childhood hero, voiced by Adam West.
Lex Luthor's Message
Go into Wayne Tower and click on Bruce Wayne's answering machine. After hearing one from Vicki Vale and another of Wayne's romantic conquests, you'll get a message from Lex Luthor, who rants and raves about trying to buy Wayne's Applied Sciences Division. Obviously, the Applied Sciences Division is where Bruce Wayne houses all of his wonderful toys.
