Korean tech company Samsung will reportedly not be releasing a Galaxy Note 5 Edge variant, according to sources from a Chinese social media website. Samsung will instead launch the rumored dual-curved Galaxy S6 Plus along with the Galaxy Note 5 to ride on the earlier success of the Galaxy S6 flagship smartphones.
This reinforces the previous rumors about an upcoming Galaxy Note 5 Edge without an S-Pen combined with a dual-edge version of the phablet. That will turn out to be an upcoming Galaxy S6 Plus, if the sources' reports are indeed accurate.
From recent experience, the media has learned to expect Samsung to launch Edge variants for every release of its upcoming flagships in both the Note and Galaxy S series. However, rumors about a Galaxy Note 5 Edge are most likely false. The sources have negated the early release of July but confirmed the formal launch as being late August in anticipation of the upcoming flagship iPhones from Samsung's rival Apple.
The Galaxy Note 5 will reportedly feature a 5.89-inch 2K-resolution touchscreen, a large 4,100 mAh battery, the signature S-Pen stylus and a new Exynos 7422 processor, which is an advanced all-in-one advanced chip solution combining the CPU, GPU, RAM, storage and modem. The 4G LTE-capable handset will be 7.9 mm thick, and dual-SIM variants of the phablet will be available in certain regions. The Galaxy Note 5 will also boot with the modified Android Lollipop 5.1.1 operating system and the customized TouchWiz UI, based on the Chinese reports.
Meanwhile, the sources have indicated that the Galaxy Note 5 will not support memory expansion cards to support wireless charging and the high performance UFS 2.0 Flash memory that is already located inside the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. In addition, the device will likely feature the new USB 3.1 type-C connector for better compatibility and faster data transfer speeds.
