Two thousand five hundred participants gathered in Mexico City to set a world record, the biggest number of selfies taken with the same smartphone in one place.

The record-breaking selfie relay was organized by LG to promote its new flagship smartphone. It was officially documented by Alex Angert, a representative from the Guinness World Records who will validate the record back at Guinness' headquarters.

It took the participants two hours and approximately 10 seconds each to take the 746 selfies during the event. Previously, the record was set just last month in the U.S. with 531 consecutive selfies taken.

On May 21, 2015, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson also became a notable selfie record holder. The wrestler-turned-action-star holds the Guinness World Record for taking the most self-portrait photographs taken in three minutes when he posed with fans during the U.K. premiere of his movie, "San Andreas." Johnson snapped 105 quallified selfies to acheive the record.

Unfortunately, his record has since been beaten at a TEDx Meeting of the Minds event in Dublin, where scores of people lined up to take 107 selfies within three inutes on June 20.

The record in Mexico was made using an LG G4 smartphone, the company's current flagship phone. According to Daniel Aguilar, LG official for the event in Mexico, the LG G4 actually still had "plenty of juice left" after the hundreds of selfies were taken. Unfortunately, they had ran out of people.

The Chapultepec Castle was the backdrop for the selfie even on June 13. According the the site's history, it has served as the location for several momentous events over the centuries.

It was a Military Academy, the only royal castle in North America that served as a residence for a sovereign, the Mexican Emperor Maximilian I and Empress Carlota in the second Mexican empire. The castle was also a Presidential home, an observatory and is now home to the Museo Nacional de Historia.
