Director Matthew Vaughn, who was behind the first Kick-Ass movie, has been brought in to work on a Hit-Girl standalone film, along with a possible Kick-Ass 3, should things turn out right.
After directing the well-received but not very successful Kick-Ass, Vaughn allowed Jeff Wadlow to take over and direct the second film. However, it didn't turn out well, and the failure of the movie appears to have put the final nails in the coffin for a Hit-Girl standalone.
Happily enough, such is no longer the case after Vaughn confirmed plans to kick a Hit-Girl movie into gear. Should this project turn out to be successful, then the next plan would be to bring Kickass 3 out of its slumber.
"We're working on an idea for a prequel of how did Hit Girl and Big Daddy become Hit Girl and Big Daddy," Vaughn said during a Yahoo Movies press event for Kingsman: The Secret Service DVD release. "If we make that, hopefully that will be the sorbet for the people that didn't like Kick-Ass 2 and then we can go off and make Kick-Ass 3."
"I think we've got to do this prequel to regain the love that we had with Kick-Ass," he added.
Needless to say, we are happy that Vaughn is returning to the franchise in hopes of creating something huge akin to what Marvel is doing. The problem is Chloë Grace Moretz is 18 right now, so will Vaughn choose to recast her or work with an older Hit-Girl?
We suspect he will bring her back into the fold since she is so closely linked to the character, and fans truly enjoy her whenever she's on screen.
We have no idea when Vaughn plans on beginning production on Hit-Girl, but we can't see him taking too long. Since he's talking about it now, there's a good chance production could kick into gear by 2016, and be ready for 2017, which isn't bad timing.
