Hulu blocking VPN services to keep foreigners off programming services

Video content streaming service provider Hulu is reportedly blocking IP addresses tied to VPN services users using an anonymous proxy tool outside of the U.S. The move, say reports, is to keep foreign users off the service.

Those using the access route to watch Hulu's online content are getting the following message: "Based on your IP-address, we noticed that you are trying to access Hulu through an anonymous proxy tool. Hulu is not currently available outside the U.S. If you're in the U.S. you'll need to disable your anonymizer to access videos on Hulu."

The news comes as video content gains greater traction with big tech titans, including AOL, pushing into the market and giving early providers, such as Hulu, a run for their money. Hulu offers free and subscription content services.

Supposedly Hulu has created a huge "block list" of IP addresses using a slew of VPN services.

The downside to such action is that the same road block is blocking U.S. and legitimate VPN users who may be using VPN as a privacy shield. Such users though have a work-around as they can pay extra for a dedicated IPN address via a VPN service and that should keep the user off the Hulu blacklist.
