Is that medicine cabinet and the bathroom drawer jammed full with old prescriptions that you're not sure what to do with? Well on Saturday you can hand them off safely as it's National Drug Take-Back Day.
All you have to do is check out the nearest collection site by clicking here and drop off the prescriptions between 10 a.m. at 2 p.m.
It's free and anonymous and the goal, according to the federal government, is to reduce prescription drug abuse and potential overdose incidents.
Last year's event was the eighth collection day in the past four years, and so far more than 3 million pounds of drugs have been collected.
The news comes as government officials strive to stem the number of accidental overdoses and drug abuse happening in the U.S. According to a release 22,000 U.S. residents died as the result of drug overdoses.
The Food and Drug Administration states many drug addicts tap family and friends' prescriptions that are typically not disposed of once they're not needed.
The U.S. Center for Disease Control and Preventions reports 75 percent of drug overdoses in 2010 were due to opiods, such as oxycodone.
The following year a reported 420,000 emergency department visits were related to misuse and abuse of prescription dugs.
