Google executive Vic Gundotra leaves the company, a move that could be a setback for Google. Gundotra is known for being the head of Google+, along with being one of the most outspoken and visible executives.
Gundotra is also the face of Google's developer relations due to his many appearances at the company's I/O conference. Replacing Gundotra as the head of Google+, is Dave Besbris, whose job title right now is VP of engineering. Furthermore, it is understood that Besbris has been part of the Google+ team since the very beginning.
"Today I'm announcing my departure from Google after almost 8 years," says Gundotra in a Google+ statement. "I have been incredibly fortunate to work with the amazing people of Google. I don't believe there is a more talented and passionate collection of people anywhere else. And I'm overwhelmed when I think about the leadership of +Larry Page and what he empowered me to do while at Google. From starting Google I/O, to being responsible for all mobile applications, to creating Google+, none of this would have happened without Larry's encouragement and support."
When it comes down to where Gundotra is going after he leaves Google, he's not ready to tell just yet. All we know is that he must have found a replacement job since leaked information via the app, Secret, claimed that he was interviewing.
"But, now is the time for a new journey. A continuation. An 'and then'. I am excited about what's next. But this isn't the day to talk about that. This is a day to celebrate the past 8 years. To cry. And smile. And to look forward to the journey yet to come."
Google CEO, Larry Page, took Google+ to thank Gundotra for is fine work over the past 8 years. As per Page, Gundotra helped to build Google+ from nothing and into what it is today.
It is highly possible that Google+ Product VP Bradley Horowitz might also leave the company, as he was not chosen as the person to succeed Gundotra.
