Two of the most iconic partners in television history will soon be back in action for the upcoming return of The X-Files to Fox. We are of course talking about none other than special Agents Mulder and Scully, who together investigated the supernatural and paranormal for more than nine seasons.
After a 13-year break, the show will return as a six-episode limited series, with almost all of the original cast and crew joining the reunion, along with newcomer Joel McHale. Now, thanks to the official X-Files Twitter account, we have our first look at how the years have treated our two heroes.
In the case of Scully (Gillian Anderson), it looks like she is holding up pretty well. She looks a professional as ever. Mulder (David Duchovny), on the other hand, looks a bit ragged, wearing a green jacket and jeans. What has Mulder been doing all these years? We saw the two briefly reunite for The X-Files: I Want To Believe film in 2008, but that movie served more as a one-off than a meaningful continuation of the show.
What Mulder and Scully have been up to all these years is anybody's guess at this point. Details about what the pair will be up to in the show's grand return are still under wraps.
"I think of it as a 13-year commercial break," series creator Chris Carter said in a statement about the show's revival. "The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories."
Carter in an interview with the Daily Mail says the idea behind the show's return is to bring closure.
"The idea is to get the old gang back, have some fun and get a bit of closure for us and the audience," Carter says.
It all still seems too good to be true. The show is currently under production in Vancouver, with The X-Files set to return on January 24, 2016.
