Leaked Images Of Oculus Rift With Controller And More Are 'Ancient'

Leaked images of the Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) headset with a controller and more have surfaced online — but these pictures are supposedly ancient history.

Oculus VR is preparing for its pre-E3 press conference on June 11, where the company will give more details about its much-awaited consumer version of the head-mounted display (HMD). The company has also set up a website with a countdown to the event.

A Reddit user called "_explogeek" dug around in the company's website and discovered a page full of hardware renders that were in the website's CSS, or screenshots that are archived.

The images showed the headset with a front camera, along with a controller and what appears to be a charging stand for the Rift. Some people are suggesting that the images are the final version of the upcoming Oculus Rift.

However, Palmer Luckey – the co-founder of Oculus – was quick enough to find the leaked images and said they're just concept pictures that should not be considered the ultimate version of the headset.

"This is an old placeholder concept image that we accidentally leaked. Everything in it is ancient, certainly nowhere close to final (as evidenced by the GPU specs and the game named 'war')," said Luckey in a Reddit post.

Whereas the photos are mostly renders, they do hint at some interesting features. For one, there is a built-in camera facing outward — a much-rumored feature that finally has some form of confirmation here. Also notable is the never-before-seen remote control, with what looks like a dial pad similar to that of the Steam Controller.

While Luckey has stated that the images are not official, some gamers still believe that they are not "ancient" as Luckey said — and may have provide some clues to the actual product.

The countdown for getting more details about the Oculus Rift has already started. Oculus Rift lovers will not have to wait too long before the company releases more information about the Rift headset.
